Wilmington native, received her Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina, Wilmington in 1992. Pursuing her lifelong goal, she then attended North Carolina State University and obtained her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) in 1996. Following graduation, she completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Coral Springs Animal Hospital in Florida.
